When you decimate the vocal stem down by 14.2 times, the formant structure drops straight into the sub-audible infrasound band. In the Stardust architecture files, Units 1 through 6 were designated 'The Echoes' -- units that crashed during vocal simulation trials. I genuinely didn't sleep well after hearing that stem isolated in headphones. -- Thiago Moreau "5 sigma is a discovery. 7 is a question." 486DX4/100 (FreeBSD 2.0.5) / FreeBSD 2.1 From mschneider@pipeline.com Sat Oct 21 14:45:38 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!eunet-fr!teletel!pipeline!mschneider From: mschneider@pipeline.com (Marisol Schneider) Newsgroups: alt.fan.nova-hart Subject: Re: [SPECULATION] The 14.2x slowdown voice on 'Memory Hatch' - myth vs reality Message-ID: <1995Oct21.144538.5654@pipeline.com> Date: Sat, 21 Oct 1995 14:45:38 GMT References: <1995Oct19.194638.2228@netcom.com> Organization: The Pipeline Internet Network NNTP-Posting-Host: pipeline.com X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 11 In article <1995Oct19.194638.2228@netcom.com>, tmoreau@netcom.com (Thiago Moreau) writes: > I spent last night testing the 14.2x time-stretch claim on track 2 using a 16-bit Sound Blaster transfer. > When you decimate the vocal stem down by 14.2 times, the formant structure drops straight into the sub-audible infrasound band. Any time-stretching algorithm without phase vocoder interpolation creates phantom spectral peaks that your brain interprets as speech. My 14.4k connection dropped twice trying to fetch this thread.
