When you decimate the vocal stem down by 14.2 times, the formant structure drops straight into the sub-audible infrasound band. It doesn't sound like Nova. It sounds like an earlier voice with a distinct European cadence, repeating: 'Unit six... core wipe incomplete.' Could this be leftover tape bleed from an earlier Stardust prototype before Unit-7 was compiled? -- Andrei Popov Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (DGSCA). ------------------------------------------------------------ From llopez@uu.net Sun Dec 03 07:38:12 1995 Path: ashpoly!bigsur!pacrim!krgate!eunha!uu!llopez From: llopez@uu.net (Liam López) Newsgroups: alt.fan.nova-hart Subject: Re: [INFO] The 14.2x slowdown voice on 'Memory Hatch' - myth vs reality Message-ID: <1995Dec03.073812.4461@uu.net> Date: Sun, 03 Dec 1995 07:38:12 GMT References: <1995Dec03.023712.5516@unam.mx> Organization: UUNET Technologies, Falls Church VA NNTP-Posting-Host: uu.net X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 9 In article <1995Dec03.023712.5516@unam.mx>, apopov@unam.mx (Andrei Popov) writes: > There's an urban legend that if you slow down 'Memory Hatch' by exactly 14.2x on a sound card, you can hear a second voice. > When you decimate the vocal stem down by 14.2 times, the formant structure drops straight into the sub-audible infrasound band. Unit 6! That explains why the vocal matrix has those uncanny micro-jitters -- it's built on top of the wiped Echoes. -- Liam López Tape trading list upon request. Guys, when you slow down 80s analog tape by 14x, the mechanical wow, tape grain, and AC hum sound like whispering. It's acoustic pareidolia. -- Rodrigo Ito Tape trading list upon request.
