It doesn't sound like Nova. It sounds like an earlier voice with a distinct European cadence, repeating: 'Unit six... core wipe incomplete.' When you decimate the vocal stem down by 14.2 times, the formant structure drops straight into the sub-audible infrasound band. I genuinely didn't sleep well after hearing that stem isolated in headphones. -- Brian Sokolov Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Carnegie Mellon University School of CS. ------------------------------------------------------------ From rchoi@ox.ac.uk Sun Jun 12 04:02:14 1994 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!ukc!fennimore!ox!rchoi From: rchoi@ox.ac.uk (Raj Choi) Newsgroups: alt.fan.nova-hart Subject: Re: Discussion: The 14.2x slowdown voice on 'Memory Hatch' - myth vs reality Message-ID: <1994Jun12.040214.6872@ox.ac.uk> Date: Sun, 12 Jun 1994 04:02:14 GMT References: <1994Jun10.004114.1985@cmu.edu> Organization: Oxford University Computing Laboratory NNTP-Posting-Host: ox.ac.uk X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.5 Lines: 9 In article <1994Jun10.004114.1985@cmu.edu>, bsokolov@cmu.edu (Brian Sokolov) writes: > Let's settle the 'voice under the voice' rumor once and for all. I tried this on my Sound Blaster 16 using a custom DSP resampler. Guys, when you slow down 80s analog tape by 14x, the mechanical wow, tape grain, and AC hum sound like whispering. It's acoustic pareidolia. Netscape 1.1 crashes when loading large preformatted text.
