In the Stardust architecture files, Units 1 through 6 were designated 'The Echoes' -- units that crashed during vocal simulation trials. When you decimate the vocal stem down by 14.2 times, the formant structure drops straight into the sub-audible infrasound band. Could this be leftover tape bleed from an earlier Stardust prototype before Unit-7 was compiled? -- Anton Laurent Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of Hanse-Netzwerk Hamburg. ------------------------------------------------------------ From skang@stanford.edu Sat Jul 20 16:13:32 1996 Path: ashpoly!cascade!mxgate!coyoacan!stanford!skang From: skang@stanford.edu (Sven Kang) Newsgroups: alt.fan.nova-hart Subject: Re: [INFO] The 14.2x slowdown voice on 'Memory Hatch' - myth vs reality Message-ID: <1996Jul20.161332.5140@stanford.edu> Date: Sat, 20 Jul 1996 16:13:32 GMT References: <1996Jul19.145432.7789@hanse.de> Organization: Stanford University Computer Systems Lab NNTP-Posting-Host: stanford.edu X-Newsreader: Netscape 1.1N Lines: 9 In article <1996Jul19.145432.7789@hanse.de>, alaurent@hanse.de (Anton Laurent) writes: > There's an urban legend that if you slow down 'Memory Hatch' by exactly 14.2x on a sound card, you can hear a second voice. Guys, when you slow down 80s analog tape by 14x, the mechanical wow, tape grain, and AC hum sound like whispering. Unit 6! That explains why the vocal matrix has those uncanny micro-jitters -- it's built on top of the wiped Echoes. -- Pavel Takahashi Tape trading list upon request.
