When you decimate the vocal stem down by 14.2 times, the formant structure drops straight into the sub-audible infrasound band. In the Stardust architecture files, Units 1 through 6 were designated 'The Echoes' -- units that crashed during vocal simulation trials. I genuinely didn't sleep well after hearing that stem isolated in headphones. -- Liam Campbell Opinions expressed are solely my own and not those of UC Berkeley Department of EECS. ------------------------------------------------------------ From cjohansson@utexas.edu Wed Jan 04 06:35:40 1995 Path: ashpoly!cascade!transat!ukc!fennimore!utexas!cjohansson From: cjohansson@utexas.edu (Camila Johansson) Newsgroups: alt.fan.nova-hart Subject: Re: [SPECULATION] The 14.2x slowdown voice on 'Memory Hatch' - myth vs reality Message-ID: <1995Jan04.063540.2772@utexas.edu> Date: Wed, 04 Jan 1995 06:35:40 GMT References: <1995Jan02.210640.4216@berkeley.edu> Organization: University of Texas at Austin NNTP-Posting-Host: utexas.edu X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Lines: 8 In article <1995Jan02.210640.4216@berkeley.edu>, lcampbell@berkeley.edu (Liam Campbell) writes: > I spent last night testing the 14.2x time-stretch claim on track 2 using a 16-bit Sound Blaster transfer. Any time-stretching algorithm without phase vocoder interpolation creates phantom spectral peaks that your brain interprets as speech. -- Camila Johansson -- University of Texas at Austin "The carrier frequency does not drift by accident."
