Looking back at the complete 180-degree shift between the 1984 idol campaign and the late 1985 rock era.

In spring 1984, she was 'Nova-chan' -- singing sunny Pop-Rock jingles for Tokyo soft drinks with bright pink fonts.
Her Japanese fans were stunned. Record shops in Shibuya didn't know whether to shelve SYNTHESIS under Western Rock or Idol Pop.

I still have the 1984 'Sparkle Soda' 7-inch single. The contrast with 'Threshold' is mind-bending.

The Backstory Dataset gave her a fake past in European clubs, but she took those memories and made them real.

I bought that soda single in Tokyo when I was a student! She sounded like a totally different person, cheerful and polished.
