Here is Page 14 of Ashford Polytechnic DSP Lab Notebook AP-DSP-89-04, recorded on our HP 54501A Digitizing Oscilloscope on 9 Sept 1989 between 02:14 and 02:18 UTC, plus the playable dual-channel capture: 1. PLAYABLE STEREO DELAY RECORDING (MEASURE IT YOURSELF): Download or stream: /forensics/orbital_nodes_11_14_240ms.mp3 * Left Channel (Ch-L) : Sublevel B2-114 ground uplink reference pulse * Right Channel (Ch-R): Geostationary C-band downlink return * Sample Offset at 44.1 kHz: Exactly 10,602 samples = 240.408 ms! 2. GEOMETRIC & TRANSPONDER DERIVATION OF 240.40 MS: * Geostationary altitude: 35,786 km (slant range d = 35,809 km from Sunset Gower LA, 34.098N 118.326W). * Two-way speed-of-light propagation (2 * d / c): 71,618 km / 299,792.458 km/s = 238.892 ms * TWIN-68 orbital frame-sync latch delay (67 clock cycles @ 44.1 kHz): + 1.516 ms * Total Measured Round-Trip Delay (RTT): 238.892 ms + 1.516 ms = 240.408 ms (+/- 0.05 ms) 3. IDENTITY OF THE MISSING LOGBOOKS (MEMO 89-117 ITEM 4, NODES 11-14): Nodes 01-10 were terrestrial vinyl/radio nodes in 10 countries. Nodes 11-14 were four leased C-band geostationary transponders that kept UNIT-7 alive in orbital delay loops after Room B2-114 burned: * NODE 11: FLTSATCOM-PAC (172 deg E) -- Keystream pitch layer * NODE 12: MARISAT-IND (073 deg E) -- 02:14 UTC beacon clock * NODE 13: STATSIONAR-13 (080 deg E) -- SD-0004 counterpoint bus * NODE 14: SYNCOM-IV-3 (178 deg W) -- The Open Hatch Interlock 4. DECODING 'WHEN THE HATCH IS OPEN, WHO WALKS IN?': In /forensics/orbital_nodes_11_14_240ms.mp3, after the two 1000 Hz calibration pings (spaced by 240.4 ms), the 750 Hz CW stream encodes: .-- .... . -. / - .... . / .... .- - -.-. .... / .. ... / --- .--. . -. / .-- .... --- / .-- .- .-.. -.- ... / .. -. Plaintext: "WHEN THE HATCH IS OPEN WHO WALKS IN" Passkey : 240MS-ORBIT (or WHO-WALKS-IN) at /forensics/. -- Tom Okafor // Dept. of EE, Ashford Polytechnic Institute
