Broadcast log updated: 1996-03-02
Howdy! Bec writing from Darwin. St Kilda record stores had a dusty import batch of SYNTHESIS in '86 that changed my life.
Running spectrum analysis on the Triple J broadcast recording shows the unmistakable 14.2 Hz sub-audible carrier ringing true.
Frequency (Hz) | Level (dB) | Spectral Density [FFT 4096] ----------------+------------+-------------------------------- 10.0 Hz | -64 dB | * 14.2 Hz [PEAK]| -42 dB | ************************** [CARRIER] 18.5 Hz | -68 dB | * 50/60 Hz | -52 dB | ******* [MAINS HUM]
'Chrome Velocity'. At 3:28 you can hear the live foldback feed glitch out. Unreal in headphones.
Everyone says 14.2 Hz is a secret code. I say it's a sub-harmonic of something in the mastering chain. Prove me wrong. (Someone did, sort of. I'm still sceptical.)
Imported US cassette picked up in Melbourne's Missing Link records.
